OLOH TV – Anchorage Misery In Miami

A few years ago we anchored out in Miami for the first time.  There are a handful of anchorage options within a few miles of ocean access and we chose our spot based on our primary need of relatively easy land access for us to take Jasper ashore.  We also wanted to have a reasonable expectation that there would be room for us when we arrived late in the day.  We knew from our research that our chosen spot had a reputation for being a party place on weekends, but being a weekday, we hoped for the best and ended up having the anchorage almost entirely to ourselves.  It was pretty awesome.

Based on that experience, we headed there again for another weeknight stop between Marathon in the Florida Keys and Palm Beach.  After nine+ hours on the water we were ready for a calm and peaceful night against the backdrop of the beautiful Miami skyline.  Uh, yeah. Nope.

Join us for the journey and the chaos with some cool sights along the way including the fascinating and iconic Stiltsville community of homes hovering above the water just off of Biscayne Bay.  And wait ‘til you see the gourmet lunch the Admiral whipped up this time!  Oh, and did we mention the chaos?  Enjoy…

  1. Grew up in Miami and used to fish (not party) at stiltsville. When I lived in Virginia Beach as an adult I kept my boat at Williams island in north Miami and spent a lot of time cruising biscayne bay and the keys. You bring back a lot of wonderful cruising memories. Keep up the salty life. I will continue to be a follower. Wishing you both continuing clear skies and calm seas, Irwin
    1. It makes us so happy to see when someone makes a personal connection to something we've put out there. There may be chaos in the waters around Miami, but it sure can make for some incredibly beautiful cruising. Cheers!
  2. I was very curious what the misery was going to be as I presumed it wouldn't have anything to do with that big beautiful anchor on the OLOH. Another informative and beautiful video. Thanks for the ride along! Peace and Love
  3. I recently began binge-watching your videos. We own a Sabre 42 IPS in Chicago and have owned Sabres since 2002. I will adopt your excellent idea of cleaning the power cord as it is retracted via the Glendinning. Also, we were able to see from a distance in our MandarinOriental hotel room on Brickell Key the chaos in your Miami Anchorage since we were there when you were in your Anchorage. It was crazy. Also ,while watching the leg of your ICW trip south to Charleston I heard you mention Peter Ferrara and his Endless Summer which I’m guessing was the Peter Ferrara with a Sabre 48–since sold. And on that leg you videoed a dark blue vessel passing you which you didn’t identify by brand —it was an older Vicem. We bought our current Sabre in Charleston and lived aboard on the Ashley River for a month in the marina just beyond the bridge north of your location. For spousal relations , I’ll never be able to duplicate your adventures so I’m living vicariously through you guys . Keep the videos coming.
  4. Friday 28 MAR. Two fairly large Party Boats were in the far east corner. Loud, but civil, left around midnight. Seemed to be 'coordinating' with a party on shore. Cars doing burnouts/donuts were active until about midnight too. Friday 14 APR. A few 'family and friends' party gatherings near the entrance. No late night activity on the water. A few car burnout/donuts going on ashore until ~11PM. Quiet night.
