We had a nice and easy night in Isle Of Hope (including Tim’s most excellent linguine with clam sauce) and a civilized departure from the marina at 8 am on our coldest morning of the trip so far – it was 54 degrees with a fairly strong northeast wind blowing.  There is a bridge in Savannah we were expecting to have to open but it remains closed from 8 to 9 and we needed an hour to get there so no need to rush as the weather and the tides were good.  As it turned out there was much more clearance than we anticipated and were able to slide under with the antennas down.  After that it was another meandering journey up the ICW, across the Savannah River and a few bigger sounds before we crossed over into South Carolina.

It’s the first morning the fleeces had to come out! Sean waits for Tim to cast the line while A.J. keeps her (OLOH!) against the dock.
Leave the dock at Isle Of Hope and you’re back on the ICW.  OLOH is Charleston-bound…
Captain Sean at the helm as we continue north.
Our ride was uneventful, but a group of these little mosquitos kept buzzing around us at one point – they might have been having fun but they looked pretty darn cold to us!
We had the pleasure of passing a very knowledgeable boater – boat name Slow Hand – who we recognized from one of the boater forums. It’s as if the sun was pointing a spotlight on him!

As we made our way up the Beaufort River and the McTeer Bridge came into view, the water became glassy calm and Jasper became increasingly excited as he sensed where we were.  The moment he saw his friend Miss Michele on the dock as we approached Port Royal Landing Marina (where we stayed for a month at the end of 2017) he nearly came unglued.  It was good to be back at another place that feels like home to us.

Jasper on arrival at Port Royal Landing Marina just moments before he realizes where we are and starts to go nuts.

We had planned on a lay-day here to take care of a few things and to visit with Michele’s family and other friends at the marina.

Michele, on the left, is the Dockmaster extraordinaire at Port Royal Landing as well as a dear friend. She and her daughter are two of Jasper’s favorite people.
Tim and the fantastic Miss Brooks.  Tim put together one of his usual spectacular cocktail hours, this one featuring his awesome dry-rub, honey glazed wings as well as fresh-caught, just bought tuna in his amazing tuna tartare with homemade crispy wontons.  No Jasper, there’s nothing up there for you!

Off to Charleston… See you out there!
